History
From Crayons to Computers is a free store for teachers of Chesterfield County Pubic Schools. This store is sponsored by the Chesterfield Public Education Foundation, Inc., and the Business and Government Relations Department of Chesterfield County Public Schools. This store offers teacher items for use in the classroom free of charge. From Crayons to Computes is much more than a teachers' store serving all school division employees on a first-come first-served basis. It is the embodiment of a community effort that involves manufacturers, retailers, large corporations, small businesses, volunteers, local media, county agencies and the many individuals who want to help young people learn. The program aids the environment by reusing goods destined for disposal. From Crayons to Computers is increasingly an important symbol of teacher appreciation and community support during this particularly challenging time for public education.

In 1994, From Crayons to Computers operated in donated space in the Chesterfield Meadows Shopping Center. Chesterfield County public Schools provided the staff, which was supported by community volunteers in the summer of 1998, having lost the donated space, the store close. As a consequence, From Crayons to Computers became a "virtual" operation. Donors were connected to potential end-users on a case-by-case-basis.

By January of 2000, Mr. John Perel, principal of Commercial Properties Management, donated this new store space and From Crayons to Computers began plans for the 2001 school year. In the fall of 2001, From Crayons to Computers completed its renovation and opened its doors. The free store will continue to be an important support to the excellent educational system available in Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Chesterfield Public Education Foundation, Inc., is a 501©3 not-for-profit organization registered with the Virginia Office of Consumer Affairs. All donations are subject to a tax deduction.

We hope you will help us to continue serving the students in our county by making a tax-deductible contribution.
