Alternative Choices
The program offers opportunities for certain students.  It is intended to serve the following needs:

  • Provide a high school diploma program for students with talent and motivation for academic success but are unable to fulfill their goals in a traditional high school
  • Provide a course or courses for students moving to the school division from schools whose schedules are not compatible and therefore are unable to schedule classes in a traditional high school
  • Provide course work for a period of time allowing the student to earn the credits needed to reenter the traditional high school as soon as possible
  • Provide additional courses which will allow the student to catch up with
    his/her appropriate grade level

Choices for course work include any appropriate combination of the following:

In order to be successful with online learning opportunities, students must be highly motivated, able to work independently and be computer literate.
 
Criteria for enrollment in the degree program are as follows:

  • Student has ten or more credits toward graduation
  • Student will seek to complete the program earning a standard or advanced diploma
  • Student scores on standardized tests such as ITBS and/or Stanford 9 are in the average to above average range
  • Student has the ability to work independently

Application process is as follows:

  • Referral from counselor
  • Signature of principal on referral
  • Completion of the application available from school counselor and submission to program coordinator at the Thomas Fulghum Center
