Children
who are entering kindergarten or who are new to Chesterfield County must register
before attending school.
Parents
whose children are not yet enrolled in Chesterfield County Public Schools
should register their children as soon as possible before the first day of
school, which is Sept. 4. Registering in advance gives children a smooth start
to academic success.
Parents
should register their children during office hours at their home school. Summer
hours at Chesterfield schools are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays
through Aug. 23. Beginning Aug. 27, school offices are open Mondays through
Fridays with hours varying by school.
To
determine which school to go to for registration, parents may call 748-1666 or
go to chesterfield.k12.va.us and use the online address lookup feature.
Students
must reside in Chesterfield County with a parent or legal guardian to attend
Chesterfield County Public Schools. A child must be 5 years old on or before
Sept. 30 to be eligible to attend kindergarten this year.
Students
enrolling in a Virginia public school for the first time must provide these
documents:
• a certified birth certificate
• a record of a physical examination
(within the past 12 months for kindergarten students)
• updated medical records listing
state-required immunizations by day, month and year of vaccination.
Documentation of vaccinations for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), diphtheria,
tetanus, pertussis (DTP) and polio is required for all students. Hepatitis B
vaccine is required for students born on or after Jan. 1, 1994, and students
entering sixth grade after July 1, 2001. Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine is
required for all children born on or after Jan. 1, 1997, who have not already
had the disease. A booster of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis
(Tdap) is required for all students entering sixth grade if at least five years
have passed since their last tetanus-containing vaccine.
To
enroll in Chesterfield County Public Schools, proof of residency in
Chesterfield County is required by providing one of the following:
• lease for a period of at least one
year or deed of a residence or property in Chesterfield
• contract or lease free of
contingencies to occupy a Chesterfield residence within two months of the date
of enrollment
• resident manager’s letter on company
letterhead stating that residence is a corporate residence located in
Chesterfield
• weekly receipts for temporary
residence in a hotel or motel for up to 60 days (requires renewal or evidence
of more permanent residency within 60 days of enrollment)
The
student’s Social Security number is requested, and it is helpful if
transferring students provide a report card from their previous school.
