Budget work sessions and public hearings scheduled
Information about the proposed FY 2010 budget for Chesterfield County Public Schools is online at chesterfield.k12.va.us. Community members who have questions or comments about the budget are invited to review the information, attend a meeting, speak during a public hearing or e-mail ccpsinfo@ccpsnet.net.
The Chesterfield County School Board will discuss the proposed FY 2010 budget during several meetings:
- On Feb. 3, the School Board will hold a budget work session at 5:30 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room, 10001 Iron Bridge Road. This work session will focus on
- proposed teacher and support staff reductions and their impact and
- proposed state and federal legislation, including legislation in the Virginia House of Delegates regarding a possible early retirement incentive program and funds for education in the U.S. economic stimulus package.
- On Feb. 10, the board will hold a 5 p.m. work session in the Public Meeting Room. The focus will be a review of school and department programs and expenditures.
- Also on Feb. 10, the School Board will hold a public hearing on the budget at 7 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room. People who wish to speak during the School Board’s public hearing are encouraged to register in advance by calling 748-1497 and placing their name on the speakers list.
- On Feb. 17, the School Board will hold a third budget work session at 5:30 p.m. in the School Administration Building, 9900 Krause Road.
- Anticipating final General Assembly action on the state budget late in the week of Feb. 23-27, the Chesterfield County School Board has canceled its Feb. 24 meeting. The School Board will hold a special called meeting at 5:30 p.m. March 3 in the Public Meeting Room. During the March 3 meeting, the board is expected to adopt its operating budget for FY 2010.
- On March 11, Superintendent Marcus Newsome is scheduled to present the school system’s budget to the Board of Supervisors at 3 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room.
- On March 25, the Board of Supervisors will hold a budget public hearing at 6:30 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room.
- On April 15, the Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on the budget at 3 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room.
- On April 28, the School Board is scheduled to adopt the budget during a 7 p.m. business meeting in the Public Meeting Room.
