Chesterfield School Board conducts its first review of Capital Improvement Program (FY 2010 – FY 2015)

The Chesterfield County School Board conducted its first review of the Capital Improvement Program (FY 2010 – FY 2015) at Tuesday night’s meeting. 

The first two years of the plan (FY 2010 and FY 2011) are the final two years of the 2004 bond referendum.  With the exception of funds to upgrade the HVAC system at current Clover Hill High School, the projects are those included in the bond referendum.  The projects remaining from the 2004 bond referendum include renovations at Gates Elementary, Watkins Elementary, Midlothian Middle, Robious Middle, Salem Church Middle, Swift Creek Middle and Midlothian High.

The last three years of the plan (FY 2012 – FY 2015) include projects approved by the School Board last year and add funding for additions/renovations at Matoaca Elementary, the addition of technical education space and HVAC projects, energy improvements and security enhancements.  Funding for additional projects not included in the 2004 bond referendum is contingent on approval of an anticipated bond referendum tentatively scheduled for 2012.  The projects approved by the School Board last year for FY 2012 – FY 2014 include major maintenance, as well as additions/renovations at Enon Elementary, Harrowgate Elementary, Monacan High and administrative space.  Other projects also approved by the School Board last year for FY 2012 – FY 2015 include construction of a new high school in the Bermuda District to relieve student crowding at Thomas Dale, Matoaca and Meadowbrook high schools and construction of an elementary school.

The School Board is inviting public comment by e-mail (ccpsinfo@ccpsnet.net) and written communication.  The Capital Improvement Program (FY 2010- FY 2015) has been posted on the School Board page of chesterfield.k12.va.us for review.  It is anticipated the School Board will approve the Capital Improvement Program for FY 2010 – FY 2015 at its Dec. 9 meeting.
