Oct. 10 event for parents offers strategies for success

Author and illustrator Trevor Romain will speak Oct. 10 as part of a Strategies for Success conference in Chesterfield County. His topic will be “Bully-Proof Your Child.” Romain’s publications include “Bullies are a Pain in the Brain” and “Cliques, Phonies & Other Baloney.”

The Strategies for Success conference runs 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Lloyd C. Bird High School, 10301 Courthouse Road. Session topics include study strategies, strengthening parent-educator partnerships, fostering self-esteem, individualized education programs, learning styles, social skills and transitioning into middle school.

Registration for the full conference costs $10 and includes lunch. Registration for just the keynote speech by Romain, which begins at 8:30 a.m., costs $5. The conference is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education and several school systems in central Virginia.
