Jan. 4–May 1
Project 186
Monacan High is reaching across the globe to help girls in Afghanistan get an education. The effort began when a freshman English class taught by Jessica Heising wanted to support a classmate’s brother, a U.S. soldier stationed in Afghanistan. Kevin Gray’s unit is helping establish a school for girls in Afghanistan, but there are no school supplies. After learning via e-mail about the 186 girls who are waiting to attend this school, the English class began Project 186 to collect a backpack filled with school supplies for every girl. All contributions are welcome: backpacks, notebooks, binders, paper, pens, pencils, etc. To contribute, deliver your items to Monacan High and have them delivered to Room 110.
