Marshall Trammell Jr.
Bermuda District

Chair

Marshall W. Trammell Jr. has represented the Bermuda District on the School Board since 1991. He is currently serving as vice chair for the fourth time and has served as chair three times.

A 39-year resident of Chesterfield County, Mr. Trammell earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech. Before retiring on Jan. 1, 2008, he worked 37 years for the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. His career included managing Virginia’s gypsy moth control programs and pesticide certification and training programs.

Mr. Trammell currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology and served on the founding Board of Directors for the Governor’s School for Government and International Studies, where he co-authored the bylaws for the school. He has also served on the boards of the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium and the Mathematics and Science Center.

He is married to Pat Trammell, who was a teacher for 31 years before retiring. Their son, who graduated from Bird High, works at the World Court. The Trammells are members of Sherbourne United Methodist Church where Mr. Trammell teaches Sunday school and serves as chair of the Church Council.

David Wyman

Dale District

Vice Chair

Elected to the School Board on Nov. 7, 2006,
David S. Wyman represents the Dale District.

Mr. Wyman is a senior international financial executive with more than 20 years of experience
in high-tech, manufacturing and software environments. He is currently the Business Manager at Elk Hill Farm, Inc., a non-profit organization focused on helping Virginia's at-risk youth. From 1997 through 2006, he served as vice president and chief financial officer for multiple divisions of Invensys, a London-based manufacturing holding company with sales of $5 billion. Previously, he worked as a financial manager for Texas Instruments and played professional basketball in Europe.

Mr. Wyman holds a bachelor's degree in math from the University of Maine and a master's degree in business administration from Northeastern University.

Mr. Wyman and his wife, Stephanie, have two daughters who attend Chesterfield schools. The Wymans are members of Grove Avenue Baptist Church, where
Mr. Wyman teaches Sunday school.

Dianne Pettitt
Clover Hill District

Dianne E. Pettitt has represented the Clover Hill District since 1993. She was chair of the first elected School Board in 1995.

A graduate of State University of New York at Albany with a bachelor’s degree in French education, Mrs. Pettitt also has a master’s degree in foreign language education from Syracuse University. She served on the staff of a General Assemblyman in Albany, N.Y., and subsequently taught French and Spanish for six years in Syracuse, N.Y.

She and her husband, Neil, have two daughters. One graduated from Monacan High School and the other from the Governor’s School for Government and International Studies. Both daughters are married and live in Virginia. The Pettitts have seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Pettitt tutored and served as a substitute teacher in Chesterfield County for several years before being appointed to the Clover Hill School Board seat. She has kept her teaching license up to date and in 2007 completed a series of graduate courses to add certification to teach English as a second language.

For the past 10 years, Mrs. Pettitt has represented Chesterfield County on the Regional Board of the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School. She has completed the yearlong LMR leadership course, the FBI Citizens’ Academy and takes an active interest in the Virginia School Boards Association Academy and Sycamore Presbyterian Church.

Omarh Rajah
Matoaca District

U. Omarh Rajah was elected to the School Board in November 2007 to represent the Matoaca District. He is the first teacher from the Matoaca District and the first African-American to be elected to the School Board. Mr. Rajah holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Randolph-Macon College and a master’s degree from Virginia State University.

After teaching and coaching in the Amelia County school system, Mr. Rajah returned for two years to his alma mater, Manchester High, to teach history and government and coach basketball and volleyball. Since 2002, he has worked in Petersburg as a teacher for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

An involved member of the community, Mr. Rajah organized Chesterfield County’s first community gang awareness conference in 2005. He has been appointed to several statewide panels, including Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling’s advisory committee, where he works to fight childhood obesity and other health problems.

Mr. Rajah and his wife, Vantrece, have been married 12 years and have a 9-year-old daughter who attends Spring Run Elementary and a 4-year-old son. They are members of Spring Creek Baptist Church.

Patricia Carpenter
Midlothian District

Patricia M. Carpenter was elected in November 2007 to represent the Midlothian District. A graduate of Post College in Middlebury, Conn., Mrs. Carpenter holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and an associate degree in merchandising.

Mrs. Carpenter owns Sabai of Virginia, a spa products company, and is a co-founder of a rapidly growing spa products group that is an innovative, entrepreneurial company supplying products to the spa and therapeutic industries. She has worked as a substitute teacher. A longtime volunteer in Chesterfield, Mrs. Carpenter helped lead the campaign for the 2004 school bond referendum, which gained 87 percent of the vote; co-chaired Homeowners for Quality Schools; and dedicated many hours to the Bettie Weaver Elementary PTA.

Mrs. Carpenter and her husband, Dean, have two boys, both attending Chesterfield County Public Schools. They are members of St. Edward Catholic Church.
